Inspired by the Provincetown Printers, this is the easy way to do Japanese style woodcutting! We will take this ancient art and make it into something fun, accessible and easy.
Using just a single woodcutting tool and a craft knife we will learn how to simplify and stylize a design, then carve it into Japanese ply, creating patterns, textures and linework. We will then ink the plate with watercolours, gouache and rice paste to produce subtle, delicate images that can be printed by hand.
A relaxing and mindful form of printing done with the minimum of equipment…perfect for doing at home!
Karen is an enthusiastic and experienced artist and tutor specialising in printmaking and acrylics. Having studied design and illustration, she worked for many years as a commercial artist before concentrating on her own work. Read more about Karen on her website: karencarterart.co.uk
